Your first season, step by step

Before your first meet · 1–14

  • 1Make your account. Choose “I coach.”Join →
  • 2Claim your school. If nobody holds it, it’s yours right away. If another coach does, they get your request.Claim your school →
  • 3Add your students to the roster.Team binder → The team
  • 4Give each student an invite code so they can see their own codes, rooms and feedback.Team binder → The team
  • 5Invite assistant coaches or student helpers, and tick what each one can do.Team binder → The team
  • 6Read the rules for the events your students will enter.Event rules →
  • 7Add your pieces: title, and author for most interpretation events. Broadcasting, Duo Commentary, Extemporaneous Speaking and Impromptu Speaking need none.Team binder → Piece library
  • 8Find meets open for registration.Find a tournament →
  • 9Register: add each student to their events on the meet’s registration sheet. A duo counts as one entry.The meet’s registration sheet
  • 10Pay the host the way their page says. Many schools pay by check or purchase order after the meet.The meet’s page
  • 11Bring judges. Each meet sets how many you owe (often 1 for every 5 entries, and a duo counts once). Short? The meet bills a hired-judge fee.The registration sheet, Judges box

  • 13Line up your bus, permission slips and a room for your team. Forms a host posts land in your binder.Team binder → Forms
  • 14Watch the deadline on the meet’s page (often 3:00 PM the Tuesday before). After it closes, dropping a student is a request the director approves, and it may carry a fee.The registration sheet

Meet day · 15–18

  • 15Bring every judge’s name and phone, and your students’ codes.

  • 18Need to pull a student? Ask the director from the sheet. Nothing is dropped until they approve.The registration sheet

After the meet · 19–21

Before you count on a State spot, confirm the current qualifying rules for that event with your region.

Only the head coach can check the school in. Releasing judges’ comments and handling money: your head coach, or a coach they’ve given access.
