What is and is not public

Public to anybody, no account needed

A speech tournament is a public competition, and its results are a public record. Michigan results going back to 2003 live here for the same reason a school keeps its trophy case in the hallway.

Results

A competitor's name, entry code, school, placement, and each judge's rank and rating, on the results page for that tournament. This is the tab sheet, the same document that has been handed out at Michigan tournaments for decades.

Team sweepstakes

Every school's sweepstakes standing at every archived tournament, and a program record page collecting a school's trophy cabinet and event champions.

The schematic, while a tournament runs

Who is in which room, and when. Competitors appear as an entry code, or as a first name and last initial if the host turns names on. No school and no scores appear on a live schematic.

Share cards

If somebody shares a result link, the preview card shows the name, event, placement and school from that result page.

Tournament pages

Invitations, schedules, room lists, entry fees, judging requirements, and any announcements a host publishes.

Never public

Ballots and written critiques

Never public. A judge's comments go to the competitor and their coaches, and only after the head coach releases them at the end of the tournament.

Contact details

Email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and home addresses are never shown on a public page and never included in a share card or a search result.

People in search

The site search covers tournaments, results, schools, past champions, news and pages. It does not return people. A competitor's name is findable by opening the result page they appear on, which is deliberate: reachable in context, not harvestable in bulk.

Team business

Rosters, forms, dues, gear orders, carpools, practice notes and coaching logs are visible to that team only, and some of them to coaches only.

What a coach or a tournament director sees while they work is not a public surface.

What you control

Claiming your results

Linking an archived result to your account changes what YOU can see, not what anybody else can. The result page looked exactly the same before you claimed it.

Sharing a page about yourself

Links you create to share a page are long and unguessable, are never indexed by search engines, and stop working when you turn them off.

Following a competitor

A family following somebody through a tournament day sees where they are and how they finish. It does not open up their ballots.

Your team's public page

A team page shows nothing about individual students unless a coach turns that layer on. It is off until they do.

The one rule worth reading twice

A school’s name is attached to a competitor on results pages and on the cards minted from them. It is not attached anywhere else: not in search, not in autocomplete, not on the live schematic, not in news or the calendar. That asymmetry is on purpose. Somebody reading a specific tournament’s results should be able to see which school a competitor represented; nobody should be able to scrape a list of which children attend which school.

Corrections, and getting a name taken down

Names in the archive come from the tab sheets the tournaments published. If one is misspelled, wrong, or should not be there, write to mifa@mispeechhub.com and say which tournament and which event.

Deleting an account removes the person and keeps the historical placements, anonymised. That is a deliberate compromise: a school should not lose a sweepstakes title from 2011 because somebody who competed for them closed an account in 2026.
