Meet-day etiquette

Before the round

• Be at your room before the round starts. If someone is already performing, wait outside until they finish.
• Dress the way your team does; most students wear business or dressy clothes. Ask your coach.

In the room

• Phone off and away.
• Go in and out only between speakers.
• Never record a round, not even your own performance. Video taping at a tournament is never allowed.
• Many tournaments ask you to stay for the whole round. If yours does, stay.
• Listen to every speaker the way you want them to listen to you.

After

• Thank your judge.
• Don’t ask the judge about your rank or argue a decision. Your coach gets the ballot.

Before the round

• Ask your child first. Some students would rather perform without family in the room.
• Competitors and judges get seats first. If the room is full, wait for the next round.

In the room

• Wait outside until a speaker finishes. Go in between speakers, when the judge waves you in.
• Never record video in a round, not even your own child. Video taping at a tournament is never allowed.
• Silence your phone and keep it away while anyone is performing.
• No signals from the audience: no time hints, no mouthing lines.
• Stay until the speaker is done. If you must leave, go between speakers.

After

• Don’t talk to the judge about the round or your child, before or after.
• You won’t see scores during the day. The first news is the break posting.
